The process starts with the precise placement of a titanium post in the place where the patient has lost a tooth. First, we find out exactly where there is enough solid bone to support the implant using our cone-beam computed tomography system (for very high-resolution imaging) or our Panorex panoramic x-ray system to make a complete scan of all the bone in the upper and lower jaws.
Using this information, we can exactly plan where the titanium implant—a slender metal post—should be placed. We use a stent-guided procedure to ensure precise surgical placement. Once the post is placed, we close up the surgical area and allow the bone to heal thoroughly. As it heals, the bone and titanium form a strong bond.
When healing is complete, we then attach a porcelain crown to the top of the implant. Now the patient has a sturdy, durable replacement tooth that feels, looks and acts just like the tooth they lost.
